Phenology April to October.

Description

A 3-5mm long strongly domed black ladybird with an expanded flange around the edge of the elytra and pronotum. An irregular shaped red spot at the front and back of each elytron. Feeds on aphids on conifers.

Life Cycle It feeds on aphids and other pests such as scale insects. It overwinters in leaf litter, foliage and bark crevices of evergreen trees and shrubs.

Habitat Though mainly found in areas of Pine, it also lives on other trees and shrubs, such as Hawthorn when its preferred Pine is absent.
