Length 10 to 13mm.
Description
It resembles a small brownish M. atricapillus (sharing with that species the extensive pale markings on the legs) but has a shorter antennal style. it has a less strongly marked abdomen and dark rings on the fore and mid tibiae.
Life Cycle The adult makes short darts to capture prey which mainly consists of smaller Diptera.
Habitat Coastal dunes, sandy heaths and similar habitats.Widespread and locally common on heathlands and coastal dunes of southern Britain
