Identification

Wing markings in this Picture Winged Fly are characteristic and distinctive. Eyes are green with two transverse red bands. Wings are presented in a front facing posture possibly to enlarge its presence and ward of any portential predator

Habitat

Females drawn to Hawthorn bushes Crategeus with berries in order to lay their eggs.

Life Cycle

Larvae feeds within Crataegus laevigata - Midland Hawthorn (Rosaceae) Local Larva feeds in the flesh of hawthorn. berries
