Classification Order: Diptera – true flies Family: Limonidae

Length 9 to 11 mm.

Phenology February to November.

Identification Possesss a patterned wings, a stripy thorax and three bands on the front femora. It also has a looped mark about halfway along the wing, the mark having a point on the apical side.The wings have a dark pattern on their front edge. The legs (femurs) are coloured yellow and contain three dark rings

Life Cycle The larvae feed on rotting wood.

Habitat A sspecies of well-wooded areas and thick hedges, sometimes seen resting on logs, fences or walls during the daytime.
