Description

Its key ID characteristics separating it from other British Coreidae include
Large Size

Reddih Brown Colour with white transverse zig zag markinga on the wing cases
Inflated / expanded Hind tibia

Nymphs are orange, maturing reddish-brown as they moult toward the final adult stage

Life Cycle

Both the Adults and Nymphs feed on Flowers and Fruit Cone seeds of a number of f conifer
trees, preferring Pinaceae, such as Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), Austrian and Corsican
pine (Pinus nigra), lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). It also has been noted feeding on spruce (Picea), fir (Abies), cedar (Cedrus) and juniper, and
occasionally on non-coniferous plants in warmer areas (e.g. , Citrus and Pistacia).
