Flight Period Adults fly from mid May to early August.

Size

Description

The male's abdomen is powder blue with a row of yellow spots along the margins. The female is brown with yellow spots. Both sexes are very broad for their length appearing quite fat. Each has dark eyes and a dark patch at the base of each wing.

Broad, flattened abdomen which is pale blue in males and yellowish-brown in females and immature males.
Broad antehumeral stripes.
Brown patch at base of wings (closest to abdomen)
Yellow spots along sides of abdomen.

No brown spot on the middle of the leading edge of the wings.

Habitat

In Britain is found in well-vegetated still water including garden and farm ponds.
