This species resides in a specialist group of insects mostly True Bugs but include some beetles that adapt to live on water surface
4 of its 6 legs have hairy pads that trap air and repel water thereby helping it wlalk on water without breaking the surface tension. Its diet consits mainly of dead or dying insects that fall into the water feeding on body juices by using its long proboscis Females lay eggs under water in a clustered jelly in Spring . The Nymphs (Larvae ) that hatch Moult 5 times befre becoming Adult , these unlike other Nymphs can Fly. These insects Hibernate over winter . Common on Still or slow moving water
