Phenology An Early Moth from February to April,

Description There are a number of variations, including a virtually all-dark Melanic form, ab. fuscata.

Life Cycle The females are flightless, and have only vestigial wings.

Habitat The species visits woodland, gardens and bushy places, with the larvae feeding on many different deciduous trees.
