Upright, woolly annual of dry, often sandy, grassland. Very locally common in S England and S Wales but scarce or absent elsewhere. Usually branched near tip. Leaves narrow. Rounded clusters of 20 to 35 flower heads White tipped red , but appears yellow from sepal like bracts , in globular clusters overtopping upper leaves are seen July to August. Height up to 25cm
